Dr. Scott Isaacs is a board-certified endocrinologist and clinical educator based in Atlanta, Georgia. He earned his undergraduate degree, medical degree, and completed his residency and fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism at Emory University, where he now serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine. Dr. Isaacs is Past President of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology (AACE) and co-chair of the AACE Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of MASLD. He is also an author of the American Diabetes Association’s guidance on MASLD in people with type 2 diabetes and a contributor to the AACE Type 2 Diabetes Management Algorithm. Dr. Isaacs lectures nationally and internationally on MASLD and MASH, educating healthcare professionals through conferences, symposia, and grand rounds.

Her work focuses on diabetes, chronic disease prevention, epidemiological surveillance, and health promotion, with extensive experience in teaching, institutional leadership, and international collaboration. She served as Vice-Dean of Graduate Programs (2019–2023) and Coordinator of the PhD Program in Epidemiology (2017–2024) at the University of Antioquia. She is President of AMNET – America’s Network for Chronic Disease Surveillance (2018–2020; 2024–2026). Tadej Battelino completed his medical degree at the University of Ljubljana in 1990. He completed a Masters degree, and later a PhD focusing on glucose metabolism in neonatal endotoxic shock in 1996. He completed his clinical fellowship at Loyola University of Chicago and his postdoctoral fellowship at INSERM, Paris. Professor Battelino is currently Consultant and Head of Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Endocrinology, UMC Ljubljana, Head, Chair of Paediatrics, and Professor of Paediatrics at Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana. He is PI on several research projects in the field of paediatric endocrinology and metabolism and was awarded the Slovene national award for research in 2014. Professor Battelino is on the editorial boards for the journals Paediatric Diabetes, Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism and was Editor for the European Journal of Endocrinology from 2009 to 2015. Professor Battelino is a member of numerous professional associations including the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes, for which he served as President for the 35th Annual Congress. He also directs the Institute for Diabetes Research and Metabolic Diseases (IDM), Helmholtz Munich, at the Tübingen site, and is a speaker and board member for the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD). His translational program investigates insulin resistance and metabolic disease, spanning type 2 diabetes, obesity and fatty liver disease and related complications. Birkenfeld combines clinical studies with model systems to identify targets for prevention and treatment. His group helped describe a hormonal heart–adipose tissue axis involving atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and highlighted the transporter INDY (“I’m Not Dead Yet”) as a regulator of lipid and glucose metabolism. His translational research has a strong emphasis on diabetes prevention—including achieving prediabetes remission as a measurable prevention endpoint and primary cardiometabolic prevention target.
