Mohammad Hassanein is a globally respected diabetologist and academic leader, notably for his expertise in diabetes management during Ramadan. He serves as the President of the Arab Association for the Study of Diabetes and Metabolism (AASD), driving regional collaboration, education, and clinical standards across the Middle East and North Africa. Based in Dubai, Dr. Hassanein has been pivotal in strengthening Gulf region diabetes care frameworks, bridging clinical excellence with culturally sensitive practices. He is a principal contributor to the internationally recognized Ramadan Diabetes Guidelines, which are widely adopted worldwide. Through AASD, he champions evidence-based medicine, capacity building, and professional education. His leadership reflects a strong commitment to cultural competence and global equity in metabolic health discourse.

Tadej Battelino completed his medical degree at the University of Ljubljana in 1990. He completed a Masters degree, and later a PhD focusing on glucose metabolism in neonatal endotoxic shock in 1996. He completed his clinical fellowship at Loyola University of Chicago and his postdoctoral fellowship at INSERM, Paris.
Professor Battelino is currently Consultant and Head of Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Endocrinology, UMC Ljubljana, Head, Chair of Paediatrics, and Professor of Paediatrics at Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana. He is PI on several research projects in the field of paediatric endocrinology and metabolism and was awarded the Slovene national award for research in 2014. Professor Battelino is on the editorial boards for the journals Paediatric Diabetes, Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism and was Editor for the European Journal of Endocrinology from 2009 to 2015.
Professor Battelino is a member of numerous professional associations including the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes, for which he served as President for the 35th Annual Congress. He served on the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) council and is co-organizer of eleven annual meetings of the ATTD (Advanced Technologies and Treatment of Diabetes). He has authored or co-authored over 190 manuscripts in international peer-reviewed journals and participated chapters to several books.

Physician–scientist and health system leader
Dr. Sagar Dugani is a physician–scientist and health system leader committed to advancing high-quality, equitable hospital care globally. His perspective is shaped by growing up in India and Canada and by professional experiences across North America, the Middle East, and South Asia, where he has worked with diverse health systems and communities. He earned his MD/PhD from the University of Toronto, completed internal medicine training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School, and fellowship training at St. Michael’s Hospital/University of Toronto before joining Mayo Clinic in 2018. At Mayo Clinic, Dr. Dugani holds senior research and leadership roles, including Associate Vice-Chair of Research for the Department of Medicine and Research Chair for the Division of Hospital Internal Medicine. He is the co-creator and director of HEXAGON, a multi-site hospital medicine network spanning 19 locations, supporting research, quality improvement, and practice innovation. His research focuses on diabetes and chronic disease management, with particular attention to rural and underserved populations, and is supported by NIH and institutional funding. Dr. Dugani serves as Chair of the American Diabetes Association Epidemiology Subcommittee, contributes to national and international committees and journal editorial boards, and is chief co-editor of four textbooks. He has trained and collaborated across 24 institutions globally, and his work has been recognized through more than 50 awards across the United States, Canada, and India.
